Jim co-founded Shout Interactive to pioneer the field of distributed 3D/VR. Shout Interactive was the first company to design and develop branded virtual reality experiences on web and mobile. This included the first 3D game on the Internet, which promoted the release of Star Trek: First Contact and helped it generate $92,000,000 in domestic box office receipts.

Shout Interactive developed its own distributed 3D/VR authoring and delivery solutions. Named Shout3D and SCREAM, these solutions worked on standard web browsers and allowed the company’s customers to reach 100’s of millions of users with richly interactive 3D/VR experiences.

Shout Interactive also played a central role in the specification design for ISO Standard X3D, the successor to VRML. It leveraged this and related opportunities to negotiate the successful sale of the company to Eyematic Interfaces for a mix of cash and stock.
